By April, most windows in Québec City look tired. Road salt and slush spray leave a film on the glass, and months of condensation leave marks along the frames.
Start with the tracks. Vacuum loose dirt first, then wipe with a damp cloth. If you clean the glass first, the dirt from the tracks ends up on your clean windows.
Check the crank mechanisms on casement windows. Dirt and old residue build up around them, and a clean mechanism is easier to open after a long winter.
Clean glass on a cloudy day if you can. Direct sun dries the cleaner too quickly and leaves streaks.
